A DEDICATED LIFE OF GREAT NAAMYOGI-SATGURU SHRI VAMANRAO PAI PART-2
Guidance of Satguru: Satguru has set the paradigm through his own example for how to make best constructive use of knowledge and Sadhana which is accomplished by His Shriguru’s grace. His guidance is not like a boat which is traveling without sails or compass but it has the strong foundation of logic, self assessed doctrines and intelligence. More over it has very strong base of knowledge from scriptures, his Satguru’s-grace and self-experience. Therefore Sadhaks who come to him do not stumble in the darkness of ignorance but walk with great confidence in the light of knowledge and wisdom. Disciple when enters in the territory of Satguru’s grace he strikes very hard on ego of disciple which gets deeply wounded. As a result, size of ego is lessened gradually. Therefore Sadhak in this secret path of spirituality progresses rapidly. Satguru explains the subject taken for pravachan in very easy language hence his disciples are always increasing in numbers. Many disciples are becoming expert in giving pravachans, Kirtans and Buddhiyoga. In these activities ladies are very much on forefront because of their enthusiasm. Satguru’s skill in teaching Buddhiyoga is very astonishing. Buddhiyoga means union of mind with God (chaitanya Shakti) using our intellect. Actually this field is the field beyond manifested world and there are no means to illustrate the subject by demonstrations. Even then Satguru has the skill and ability to make the Sadhak expert in this field of spiritual science. Satguru has achieved extraordinary success in the guidance of spiritual science. Therefore he has many disciples in Mumbai, Pune, Konkan, Goa, Karnataka, Nanded etc. Satguru’s literature: Normally it is not possible for any disciple to guess the supreme mental status of his Satguru. The great Saints like Satguru Shri. Vamanrao Pai who remains in such an advance state of mind normally does not indulge in writing books. But Satguru’s pravachans in Hanuman temple were so much liked by the audience that people forced him to write a book on Haripath in Marathi called as ‘Dnyaneshacha Sandesh.’ Thereafter he has written Sarth Haripath, Namacha Nandadip, Jivanvidya Darshan, Amrut Manthan, Tuch Ahes Tujhya Jivanacha Shilpkar, Sukhi Jivanache Panchshil, Tumacha Utkarsh Tumachya Hatat, Sharir Sakshat Parameshwar, Jivanvidyecha Mangal Kalash, Vidyarthyana Margdarshan Jivanvidyeche, Striyashi Hitguj, Jivanvidya Samaj-Gairsamaj, Dharma Samaj-Gairsamaj, Satguru Samaj-Gairsamaj, Paap-Punya Samaj-Gairsamaj etc. in all 49 books. Many of his books are translated in English, Hindi, Gujarati, Kannada, Tamil etc. These books are written in such simple, easy and flowing language that even child can understand and grasp it. These books are popular in all strata of people and many editions of these books are printed till now and many thousands of copies of these books are sold every year. Besides this he has written many articles in various news papers and magazines. He gives pravachans for T.V. channels and radio programmes are broadcasted daily based on his philosophy. Admiration of his work: Satguru beholds a magnanimous personality. Many philosophers-thinkers and honorable persons of the society have appreciated and acknowledged his work. Senior Journalist, dramatist, thinker and Member of Parliament Shri. Vidyadhar Gokhale said, “A nation comprises of people and intellectual and spiritual progress of all individual members of the society helps in progress of a nation. Hence the great work of Satguru Shri. Vamanrao Pai is eternal.” Noted Journalist and literary Shrimati Shirish Pai says that, “If you compare Satguru’s books with Del Connergie’s book ‘How to stop worrying and start thinking’; which is sold in thousands we realize that Satguru’s books are at much higher level; eye opening, guiding and throw light on the various complexities and perplexities of life.” Mumbai University’s Head of Department of Marathi Shri. V. D. Kulkarni says that, “In hectic life of this age of Science and Technology, it is impossible that man would have life oriented attitude and also as a result of politics and power competition, people are loosing the faith in life. At this juncture it is very essential to have authority and experienced personality like Satguru Shri. Vamanrao Pai who says that, “To live life is an art and Jeevanvidya teaches you how to master this art and live life full of joy and bliss by having purity of mind.” Satguru Shri. Vamanrao Pai has instilled the self-confidence and enthusiasm in man to live life. His work is not only religious but also a great work at national level. Today man needs great saints like Satguru Shri. Vamanrao Pai. The great philosopher, Late Shri. Datta Baal said, “I sincerely hope that the books written by Satguru Shri. Vamanrao Pai would be like lighthouse to modern man.” Editor of Marathi daily,‘Nava kaal’ Shri. Nilkanth Khadilkar has honored Satguru Shri. Vamanrao Pai by devoting editorial solely to him, his philosophy and work. He says that, “If leaders like Vamanrao who have clarity of thoughts would have been Shankaracharya of Hindu religion then our nation would have become stronger than U.S.A and Russia. From this we understand the importance of his life-time endeavor.” Nature and personality: Satguru Shri. Vamanrao Pai has a quiet but bright and cheerful personality. In his eyes we get to see the cosmic power which is infinite. As he has sweet, quiet and playful nature he is attractive to even strangers. Therefore if anybody comes to him to argue he forgets to argue and instead agrees with him. He has sweet, humble and adorable nature. Once he was staying with his daughter for about 4 months in Canada; at that time his disciples had become desperate like fishes which are out of water. If disciple is in trouble he is full of tears. Satguru becomes very anxious till he is out of danger. Many disciples who had fallen in death trap say that it was only because of his grace that they got life. ]Family life: On 18th May 1948 he got married. His wife Mrs. Sharada Mai beholds very good nature and is lovable, supportive, hard working, clever, extremely sensible and has very good practical knowledge and hence she is playing lion’s share in successful life of Reverend Satguru. He has two children. His son Shri. Pralhad has B. Tech. degree from I.I.T. Pawai and is a G. M. in a company. His daughter in law Milan Tai is a graduate and is working as a officer with Reserve Bank of India. His grand son Nikhil is sweet, playful scholar and has brilliant academic record. He is C. A. and is officer working with Mahindra and Mahindra Company. Nikhil’s wife Priya is also well educated and is working. Satguru’s daughter Mrs. Malan Tai is also well educated and her husband Shri. Vidyadhar Kamat is an electrical engineer (B. E.) and has completed M. S. in U. S. A. He stayed in Canada for 20 years and after that he is settled in Goa. The couple has a son named Swapnil who is very sweet and he helps his father in his business. Satguru has very happy and content full family life. Though he has fame and glory, he is extremely humble and polite. His life is a harmonious blend of his Satguru’s grace, relentless efforts and amazing intelligence. It is to be noted that Satguru Shri. Vamanrao Pai is giving pravachans and Kirtans since last 55 years but he does not take any honorarium for it. Likewise he does not take any royalty for writing books. Similarly he does not take any gurudakshina for spiritual guidance. His thinking is, “If people accept Jivanvidya and live happily with peace and content ness then that is a gurudakshina for me.” His venture is not merely a religious work but it is a great social endeavor which is helping the whole mankind. Social-National-Universal Endeavor: Satguru is not only a spiritual guide but he is a national saint who toils hard for making social reforms which are extremely beneficial to society and good for national progress. People in our country have understood the importance of family planning now. At present government is making sincere efforts by all means and ways. But Sadguru had valued the importance of family planning long ago. He was advocating family planning about 17 years before Government started canvassing for it. In 1954 Satguru backed family planning in his pravachan at Lalbag. In those days it was very much ahead of the time and revolutionary to talk on this subject. Many times he expresses his views on politics without any hesitation in his pravachans and also in books. He guides students from time to time which help them in gaining academic excellence. The Universal Prayer is prepared by him and has well wishes for whole mankind. It is sung daily in many schools in Mumbai and other places in Maharashtra. He and his disciples are campaigning in mass scale against blind faith and beliefs and also against various addictions which are rampant in our Indian society and many people are entrapped in it and are suffering because of them. As a result of his efforts many people are developing pure faith and self-confidence; therefore they are breaking age old customs and traditions which are inappropriate and ridiculous. Many addicted persons are abstaining from addictions and are living happy family life. From the following example you would understand and realise how these age-old customs were broken by Satguru. There was wedding of a son of one of the disciple of Satguru. In this marriage ceremony no rituals were performed and the priest was also not present. In brief there was no ritual or custom was followed as per the traditions. This wedding was arranged as per the Satguru’s inspiration. In the beginning the bride and bridegroom took the blessings from Satguru and then garlanded him. There after ‘Upasana Yandya’ was performed. ‘Upasana Yandya’ means enchanting the name of God by 11 ways. After the completion of ‘Upasana Yandya’ bride and bridegroom garlanded each other while the auspicious hymns of universal prayers were being enchanted. After this ceremony the bride and bridegroom walked between the rows of disciples who were standing on both the sides of path. People showered the couple with flower petals as they were passing through. No gifts were accepted by the wedded couple but the well wishes were the most valuable present for them. This couple is happily married and has a son. When the all things in the market are becoming dearer day by day, by avoiding plush expenses, this wedding was organized in the most exclusive way. This way Satguru showed the most innovative way to perform a wedding ceremony. Now many couples are following this method of having wedding ceremony and many marriages are done in this manner on dear Mai’s Birthday on 16th April every year. Once Satguru went along with his wife to attend a function at a village called as ‘Chinchani’. He was invited at one of the disciple’s home. At that time all devotees in the house bowed to him and garlanded him to welcome. The women devotees in the house wished to welcome Mai- Satguru’s wife by offering oti to her. (Gift of saree, blouse-piece, coconut etc.-it is offered to married women to show respect) but as they were all widows in the family these women were hesitating to offer. Both the elderly woman and her daughter-in-law started searching for a suvasini (a married woman whose husband is alive) in the neighborhoods. Looking at their restlessness and hustle-bustle Satguru asked them, “What is bothering you all? Who wishes to welcome Mai? Whoever wishes to offer oti to Mai should go ahead with it and there is no problem in it.” The daughter-in-law was amazed to hear this because she was a widow. As Satguru insisted to her, she joyously offered the oti to Mai with tearful eyes and heavy heart. In this manner Satguru has taken many decisions which are ahead of the time. One more example of such occasion was observed when he had visited the home of one of his disciple when his mother had passed away. As soon as Satguru entered the house, all the members of the house came to greet him. He noticed that though the three daughter-in-law of the house were Suvasinis they had not put kumkum tilak on their forehead. He asked the reason of their behavior. They told him that it was custom in their caste not to apply kumkum for 13 days when any member of the family expires. Satguru asked them not to follow such weird custom which is not present even in other castes. He further said that if you feel you will get sins for such behavior then you send the parcel of sins to me I will accept it. Once Satguru had gone to Nanded for Pravachan programme. When he went there he came to know that father of one of the disciple expired recently. He observed that none of the family members of this devotee came to attend the Pravachan. H. H. Satguru went to visit them. He noticed that though all the members of the family were well educated none of them was attending their routine professional work. When he enquired about this in detail he came to know that in their caste it is custom that after the death of a family member all the members of the family should not leave the house for 13 days. Hence in a flat which had 2 bedrooms, six sons with their wives and children were gathered and were staying together. Out of these sons, one was a C. A. the other was a Doctor, 2 others were engineers and remaining 2 were having independent businesses. It was the month of March and usually C.A. s have many urgent jobs in this month. Engineer brothers had their factories to run. Though all these people had so much of work to do, still they were locked up in the house due to an age-old custom. Satguru emphatically told them, “It is not at all wise to follow such customs. It is inappropriate to leave all your jobs and duties sit at home like this; besides such custom is not advocated by our religious scriptures.” Satguru further said that he was at home for 2 days when his father expired because many people were coming home for condolence. After third day he started attending office. He gave his own example and asked to join the work next day onwards. There is one more tradition which is prevalent in Hindus. Widows can not do arati and bless their brothers in Diwali. This custom is followed as a result of ignorance and blind faith. H. H. does not approve of this custom and has always condemned this custom. Many times in our Hindu society, a woman is held responsible for the death of her husband hence she is prohibited from doing aarati to anybody. This custom is meaningless, absurd and is the sign of utter foolishness because no one can decide or predict a man’s life and hence this custom should be stopped. How that only a woman is held responsible for the death of a man? The answer to this can not be given by even by God. There are many members in the family which include husband’s father-mother, brother-sister etc.; and then how come these other members are not held responsible for his death. In brief, this custom is a great injustice to the whole women kingdom. Satguru’s sister is a widow. Every year he requests her to do aarati and bless him but she is not ready to break the custom. Satguru earnestly wants to stop this custom. In this manner Satguru at first enlightens the people about the meaningless customs and keeps new standards in front of them. Satguru never discriminates anybody on the basis of caste. Satguru went to Solapur for Pravachan. He was invited for lunch by many upper caste devotees. In spite of this he took time to visit lower caste disciple’s house. Satguru has a large heart and a divine mind which created many social reforms. Many sages, rishis and saints have guided our nation spiritually and socially. Satguru has the personality which is befitting to our ancient culture and traditions. If we have to say in brief his endeavor is not only a religious or spiritual work but it is a social work for the betterment of our nation and the whole universe, for which every one of us should be proud of. There is no doubt that his successful, ideal and divine life is a source of inspiration to the present and future generations and it will be guiding us like a tall lighthouse for ever in our lives. Such great men are borne once in many centuries and they support and guide this world which is flowing downwards towards more and more gratification of sense organs. Thus he is one of the great legendaries of this world. We offer many millions and millions of salutations to him. May he have healthy long prolific life!
