Alcohol is used sometimes as medicine and somtimes it is used as one of the ingradient in medicine so it may be taken for that purpose. But tobacco has no role in keeping good health. Alcohol and tobacco both can be very addictive and are harmful for our health when we get addicted. As it is said that,  best way to leave any bad habit is before you start consuming it. Hence Jeevanvidya is against consumption of alcohol for non-medicinal use and tobacco usage.
