Namonamah
The gross or outer mind is said to influence the inner mind, as per my understanding of JV. This has been stated as the mechanism for the effectiveness of VP. Can we, then, keep on chanting "ignore the outer mind" continuously and cause the all-powerful inner mind to actually ignore it thereafter? If not so, why?
If so, 1. how can we make use of this? 2. Can this happen accidentally? 3. Can this happen during a brief period of rage or other momentary loss of self control? 4. Is this, or is this likely to lead to, mental illness?
Thanks and regards Milind Khadilkar

Namaskar MK jee and all,
If we keep ignoring conscious- outer mind which means just concentrate on our inner mind/ swaroop then we will ignore all our duties and responsibilities and doing so will affect our family members and will not be able to do our professional duties properly and doing other duties may also suffer. Such person may become less useful or useless for the society. JV does not advocate such path to attain spiritual progress. Shri Satguru condemns such path and asks all naamdharaks to avoid doing this. If anybody does this even by accident he/she may have to suffer according to the law of nature.
When there is constant guidance of Shri Satguru and the disciple surrenders and obeys Satguru’s advice, then conflict in the mind is avoided and there is a balance between prapanch-doing materialistic duties and paramarth-attaining spiritual progress, hence no question of development of any mental disease. Otherwise there can be development of a state where one finds that he is deceived in both. (Tuka dohikade chor) Satguru’s guidance is very important in attaining spiritual progress because he always warns you from time to time and asks to take precautions and if we listen to him then spiritual journey is smooth otherwise it is very cumbersome and nobody knows how much time one will take to accomplish spiritual progress.
May everybody chant VP!

Nutan-tai,
Brilliant answer.
MK,
There are many (better and worse) ways of momentarily stopping the conscious mind (STATUE - the game we all play as child). One is SAMADHI LAVANE, second DIVYASADHANA, third NAAMSMARAN or VP, fourth ZOP, fifth NASHA (not recommended by JV), controlling breath, controlling thoughts, etc. If many of these things are not done properly then it can lead to mental illness - NAAM or VP, DS are exceptions. Even PRANAYAM done wrongly is bad for health. Accidental damage to parts of brain can induce this state.
But it is not possible to ignore it. During realization conscious mind and subconscious minds can together be transformed into Pure Consciousness and later DIVINE CONSCIOUSNESS.

Namonamah, Thanks Subhashjee, Dr. Nutanjee, for your answers which are full of important warning signs. However, they are not really answers to my question. I am fairly convinced of the possible ill-effects of the conscious mind losing control over the inner mind. leads to .... skrooo dheelaa, I suppose.
However, I still wonder ... since inner mind works under the direction of the outer mind...
My question was: Can we, then, keep on chanting "ignore the outer mind" continuously and cause the all-powerful inner mind to actually ignore it thereafter?
Thanks and regards

MK,
We have already given our answer. Ignoring is not possible. You cannot change the way things work. You need to make use of laws of mind to come out of it. Subconscious mind can not take over as Subconscious mind. We need to elevate subconscious mind by making it Pure mind. We need to work on conscious mind and make it Pure mind. By giving a suggestion on 'Ignore' it will not become pure. Suggestion should be in tune with the laws of nature. I cannot give an autosuggestion to subconscious mind that I will fly like a bird. It is against the laws of nature.
