Sadguru Pai Mauli has repeatedly requested namdharaks to recite prayers but it seems difficult to many of us to complete the target. Although it is just reciting where almost nil energy is wasted, no money wasted and no time is wasted in fast life.
All the saints and guru in the past have told same things from donkey?s years. Not only that but veteran leaders like Mahatma Gandhi also have thrown light on reciting the God?s name,  but we just forget our true purpose in life.  Human mind?s tendency is to discard the easy things and look for difficult ones.
Sometimes I think, had Sadguru and Saints told us that we need to stand on one leg, hold one hand up and the other hand to hold the tip of the nose, and try to touch own feet and say ?Vishwaprarthana?, I think some many of us would have tried more to get it right.
Dyaneshwar mauli also said ?sarva marg sugam haripath?.
I believe people fail to realise the essence behind the ?namasankirtan?. Below are the saying from Saints and Gurus which throws ample of light on reciting prayers. Also believe that after reading this, at least some of us will permanently stick to the daily target (no matter what happens), including me as I am on of you.
Lets all make a confident try and try completing our target

Anandamayi Ma said in one of her writing on 27th Jan 2011, that:-
Delay not the day that is gone, never returns. Invaluble time is slipping away. Devote your days to endeavour to draw close the Lord of the Humble. When extreme old age supervenes, you will be too sluggish , too feeble to concentrate on God?s name. How will you then make up for what you failed to do in good time?

Adi Sankaracharya said:-
Which means :-
Sri Hari, the bestower of Salvation, give beauty, health, worldly possessions and appropriate enjoyment to those who constantly meditates (Dyayato Nityam)  on Him.

The same is said in Bhagvad Gita:-
Which means:-
Realizing thus, the wise ones, the knowers of the supreme Reality; filled with fervour-bhava, meaning ardent longing for the supreme Reality; worship me by Chanting my Divine names.

Guru Nanak said :-
Guru Nanak felt that it would be improper to postpone Nama Smarana or remembering the Name of the Lord, even by a single breath, because no one could tell whether the breath that had gone in would come out or not. Nanak says, "We are men of one breath. I know not a longer time-limit".
Guru Nanak calls him alone a true saint who remembers the Name of the Lord with every incoming and outgoing breath. The ideal is practical and within the reach of every man. He tells the people not to lose any time but to begin at once. He also says that there are no barriers of race, class, caste, creed or colour which check the progress of any in reaching the goal. He realised the great truth of the brotherhood of religions. He preached the universal brotherhood of man and the fatherhood of God to all people.

Sant Gyaneshwar has said this 17 times in Haripath. One of them is:-
People are rare who have the mind to follow the easy method of reciting Hari and Ramakrishna
One who is immersed in Chanting the Divine Name of Ramkrishna, has achieved all miraculous powers. If you unfailingly commit yourself to chanting His name he has the right achievement, proper intellect and virtue and for him the world is a community of saints. Jnanadev says: The Lord's name has become engraved in my heart ; Because of this, I see Hari in mySelf and everywhere.

Mahatma Gandhi in Bhavanajli said:-
Why hast thou given up Ramanama? Thou hast not given up anger nor falsehood, why hast thou given up truthful speech? Being immersed in this false show why hast thou abandoned the original home? Thou hast treasured a cowrie, why hast thou neglected the ruby? Why hast thou given up remembering that which is the source of all happiness? Khalus says: Why wilt thou not trust God and leave body, mind and wealth?

Sant Kabir

Sant kabir says, "Uttering the Name of the God is real essense and all others are sources of troubles. I have analyzed from beginning to end thouroughly and see that except the uttering of  God's Name all other things are means of destruction."
Modern scientific experiments have confirmed that the japa regulates the reciter's respiration

Modern scientific experiments have confirmed that the japa regulates the reciter's respiration in a way similar to that offered by some of the exercises of pranayamas. It reduces the breathing rate to half its normal average.
That means, on an average, one hour's disciplined practice of the japa yoga would augment the life of the sadhaka by about five hundred breaths at least! Japa therefore could also be advised as an important health-exercise.
As mentioned earlier, the effects of japa awaken one's inherent virtues that naturally result in an overall improvement in his personality, and amelioration of his physical and mental potentials. These positive effects can be used for noble success in terms of worldly progress as well.
It is the willpower and the vision, aroused by the japa that 'transform' the difficult circumstances and obstacles into minor ones in a miraculous manner.

The Bible [Zechariah 13:9]
They shall call on my name, and I will hear them.
I will say: Thou art my people: and they shall say: The Lord is my God

Quran:
Name and the Named are but one,
Light of Name witnesseth His glory.

   - Hazrat Moieen-ud-din Chishti

Sant Namdev

The mortal will even die for the sake of his wealth;
In the same way, the Saints do not forsake the Lord Rama's Name

Sant Surdas:-

I have heard that Rama is the help of the helpless. I can produce the evidence of those saintly people who were helped by him in their adversity. So long as the elephant relied upon his own strength, his case was hopeless, but when in his helplessness he invoked the assistance of Rama, he responded when hardly his Name was half pronounced. When Draupadi felt helpless and cried out His Name, He felt the call in his seat and God having multiplied her clothing Dushasana grew tired of hopelessly trying to strip her naked.

Man relies on his
i.   own strength
ii.   or his austerities
iii.   or the strength of his arms
iv.   or fourthly his wealth.

Surdas says that when a man has exhausted all his resources and invokes the Name of God, His grace descends upon him.

Sai Baba from Shirdi:-
Source: Shiridi Sai Satcharita
 Shiridi Sai says,
"When I go to sleep I ask often Mhalasapati to sit by My side, place his hand on My heart and watch the 'chanting of the Lord's name' there, and if he finds Me sleepy, wake Me up."

Swami Vivekananda

Meditation again is a constant remembrance (of the thing meditated upon) flowing like an unbroken stream of oil poured out from one vessel to another. When this kind of remembering has been attained (in relation to God) all bondages break. Thus it is spoken of in the scriptures regarding constant remembering as a means to liberation.

GOD BLESS ALL! Happy chanting!

Namonamah,
Thanks Aniljee for this post.
Your choice of selections is indeed neat!

However, as pointed out: हरिनाम जपे तो नर दुर्लभ । If it has been so since Sant Jnaneshwar's time, it probably is what in common parlance is called "Gyaanbaachee mekh"! It is probably a law of nature that only a handful of people will chant the naam.

VP is possibly easier. Is it?

Thanks and Best wishes

 Namaskaar to All,

Great effort is taken by Shri Anil Chauhan in writing his article. It is very well written. Good Job. Please continue to post such articles.

M. K. Jee,

Doing Naam-smaran is indeed a very difficult task. All saints had this experience. Shri Satguru Wamanrao Pai also had this experience only. Hence he created VP. With VP he had better response from the people. Many people chanted VP, and reported their various experiences to him. The people accepted VP with more enthusiasm and they liked it more as they started getting benefits because of chanting of VP. You can read these experiences in trimonthly magazine published by JVM called Deepsthambh.

Namonamah,
Thanks Dr. Nutanjee,
I find it equally easy (=>equally difficult) to do VP or naamjap. In such a case what should I prefer?
I remember it said on this forum that while VP does not impose additional restrictions or require concentration of any kind, naamjap involves additional discipline and concentration and "bhaav" (or total lack of bhaav), without which Naamjap does not bear fruit. Is that why JV prefers VP?

Thanks and regards
